Perhaps the Valle del Tormes is the wildest and most diverse of all the places in Avila. Ideal place for lovers of nature, of course, but also of sports, especially for mountaineers, climbers and snow lovers. Canoeing, rafting, horseback riding and mountain biking are common activities in this region. It is located in the southwest of the province, between the Villafranca and Piedrahíta mountain ranges, and the Gredos peaks. The Tormes rises in the municipality of Navarredonda de Gredos (1580 m. Above sea level. Its tributaries are the Aravalle and the Corneja). But let's stop here to talk about the Sierra de Gredos, “stony heart of Spain”, as Unamuno defined it, the most frequented center of the Community of Castilla y León.
In Navarredonda de Gredos the strength of its parish tower is impressive; the explanation must be sought in the previous military use of said tower. The Parador Nacional de Gredos is the oldest in Spain, it was founded by Alfonso XIII. It is a privileged place where it is worth stopping.
From Navacepeda de Tormes you can access a heavenly place of incredible beauty: the puddle of the walls. Navalperal de Tormes is, in addition to being a beautiful place (beautiful group of square, fountain and church), another starting point for mountain excursions, and where you can practice cross-country skiing.
La Aliseda de Tórmes, another beautiful little town, sits on the banks of the river, its landscape changes as the altitude decreases, the oak groves give way to the holm oaks. Bohoyo turns out charming.
El Barco de Ávila is known for its appreciated beans, and is located at the western end of the Gredos mountain range. Ending with the Aravalle valley where we are, on the way to the Jerte Valley.
